4th Kind gets rated

The last we heard about the THE FOURTH KIND, we were treated to the film’s extensive synopsis and plot description (check that out HERE). Since then the film has been screened by the MPAA, and their assessment of its rating may surprise you.

But before that, a recap. THE FOURTH KIND is a fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up.

If you’re thinking that sounds like a solid R movie, well… think again. The MPAA slapped THE FOURTH KIND with a PG-13 rating for violent/disturbing images, some terror, thematic elements and brief sexuality. Oh, well, in that case… bring on the PG-13!

Judging from the reasoning behind the rating, it looks like the only thing that’s missing from THE FOURTH KIND is bad language. There’s sex, violence, and terror… if that’s what gets a PG-13 these days, then count me in! Heaven forbid they drop the F-bomb and land a hard R.

Smart move on Universal’s part, considering THE FOURTH KIND is being released on November 6th, the same day as Warner Bros. R rated THE BOX hits theaters. Should be interesting to see who becomes the victor on that one.
