American Horror Story goes slasher style with season 9, titled 1984

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed the title and theme for the FX anthology series' upcoming ninth season, and this is by far the one that appeals to me the most of all nine seasons. Season 9 is titled American Horror Story: 1984, and the video that accompanied the title announcement indicates that the season is going to be an homage to the slasher movies of the '80s.

In this video, which can be seen below in the embed from Murphy's Instagram account, a young woman is pursued through a dark woods by a blade-wielding maniac. She seeks shelter in a cabin, but it doesn't look like things are going to work out for her.

I haven't watched any American Horror Story beyond the first one or two episodes of the first season, but if Murphy is going all-in with the '80s slasher concept with season 9, I will definitely be watching this one.

The only confirmed cast members for season 9 at this point are Emma Roberts and Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, who will be playing the boyfriend of Roberts' character. Evan Peters, who has been in all eight seasons up to this point, has said that he will be sitting this one out.

Sitting out the slasher season? That's unfortunate.

Roberts and Murphy previously worked together in slasher territory on the series Scream Queens, pictured above.

We'll provide updates on American Horror Story: 1984 as more information is made available.
