Get your first look at Hailee Steinfeld in Transformers Bumblebee spinoff!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Despite the TRANSFORMERS brand no longer being a guaranteed mechanized cash cow at the box office these days, production for Paramount Pictures and Hasbro's BUMBLEBEE spinoff has recently started filming in California. Helmed by Laika Studio's visionary Travis Knight (THE BOXTROLLS, KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS), BUMBLEBEE will feature the fan-favorite autorobot-in-disguise while on the run in the year 1987. For the film, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (portrayed by TRUE GRIT actress Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Assuming that Steinfeld's Watson is an entirely new character, it's to be thought that BUMBLEBEE will be presented as a stand-alone effort. Whether that's the case or not is anyone's guess, particularly when you consider that the TRANSFORMERS writers room recently disbanded.

Recently, actress Hailee Steinfeld posted a first-look photo of her character, Charlie Watson, for fans to enjoy (and possibly drool over). After all, Hailee is looking quite rad in her ripped jeans and classic Motorhead t-shirt. For real, highschool me would have lost his mind for this woman.

Also set to appear alongside Steinfeld in the toys-to-screen spinoff are actors Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny.

For now, Travis Knight's BUMBLEBEE will buzz on into theaters beginning on December 18, 2018.
