Update: When reached for further comment, Simon Pegg stated on the matter, "Why is everyone leaping on this? It was a rumor last summer, wasn’t it? I read it in the paper. It may be untrue, like most of the other rumors, like Cumberbatch and Cruise being in it." I don’t doubt that Craig being in THE FORCE AWAKENS is just another rumor that Pegg was relaying, but stranger things have happened. Either way, you'll find the original, unaltered article below.

It's easy to forget that celebrities can be Star Wars fans too, and while we've heard about several set visits from various actors, evidently a few of them may have made their way into THE FORCE AWAKENS. There's not a great way to confirm the following information unless the director or actor want to fess up, but it looks like James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, may be playing one of the many (masked) stormtroopers in the film. Simon Pegg was evidently being asked if he would be playing one of the many men in white, of which he denied. Whether or not he's pulling our leg is anyone's guess.

Simon Pegg on whether or not he plays a stormtrooper:

I wasn't a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper. I shouldn't have said that.

If true, this reminds me of some of the cameos towards the end of HOT FUZZ. While it doesn't do much for the audience, at least an actor could know he took part in a legacy such as Star Wars. I'm sure that if Craig or Simon Pegg are actually in the movie, J.J. Abrams was smart enough to tuck them away in roles that are not easy to spot. This isn't ENTOURAGE, after all. Although if any one stormtrooper struts across the frame and fires directly into the camera, we may be onto something…

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
