It looks as Sony is just about done figuring out what the hell to do with THE INTERVIEW after U.S. president Barack Obama stated that it was a mistake NOT to release the film. As of now, the film WILL see at least a limited theatrical release with The Plaza theater in Atlanta taking charge, as well as Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League stating that they have been allowed to screen the film on Christmas day. Word on the street is that more theaters will have access to the film, although the exact dates for this, as well as a possible VOD release, have yet to be announced.

Tweets confirming screening the film:

Official statement from Sony Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton:

We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. I want to thank our talent on THE INTERVIEW and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.

JoBlo’s Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey wrote up a great column regarding most of our thoughts here at the ‘Blo, and his last lines were, “Find your middle finger, Sony. There’s still time.” He’s absolutely right. Taking the film away was a mistake, so now’s their chance to right that wrong and make it available to any theater that wishes to screen it. I promise you that people are willing to go the extra mile to see this flick in a theater. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you all updated on THE INTERVIEW’s release!
