Trailer for straight-to-DVD pic Empire State, starring Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth

JoBloJoBlo

We just found out this week that EMPIRE STATE would be going straight to DVD, which came as a bit of a shock given the talent involved. Stars Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth both have some considerable clout in their favor, both being a part of at least one major franchise (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS for Johnson and THE HUNGER GAMES for Hemsworth). In additon, the supporting cast looks pretty good as well, including Emma Roberts, Michael Angarano, Jerry Ferrera, and Nikki Reed, yet the movie still couldn't find the traction to get to theaters. Regardless, the trailer dropped today and it looks pretty decent overall, if not mildly predictable. Normally the writing is on the wall when it comes to a film going the DTV route, but this one is a little strange. Perhaps it has to do with the spotty record of director Dito Montiel, who has failed to garner much attention with his pics FIGHTING and SON OF NO ONE.

Take a look and decide for yourself:

Here's the synopsis:

A drama centered on two childhood friends who plan to rob an armored car depository, and the NYPD officer who stands in their way.

EMPIRE STATE is headed to your local department story shelf on September 3, 2013.

Perhaps these lovely ladies (Emma Roberts and Nikki Reed)can help sweeten the deal?
