After getting an official release date, Thor 2 gets a writer

Earlier this week it was announced that THOR 2 was officially in the works at Marvel Studios and not looking to waste any time on development, today we have word that they’ve already hired a writer.

Don Payne, who was one of many credited writers on the first film as well as a writer on FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, will get first crack at the script for the THOR sequel.

As previously reported, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will be returning for the sequel but director Kenneth Branagh will not be. His departure is said to be amicable (i.e., he wanted to leave and they wanted him to leave) and Marvel will soon begin meeting with directors to help Payne shape the story.

Now speaking of the story, where do we go from here? The ending of THOR will presumably be wrapped up in the early stages of THE AVENGERS. Will there be more Jane Foster (please God say no…)? Is it too much to ask for to get some Enchantress love? If you’re a big fan of THOR, where do you want to see this movie go?
