Michael Caine spends time with Dwayne Johnson on a Mysterious Island

Michael Caine: septuagenarian man of action?

The ever-busy film veteran is joining the de-Rocked Dwayne Johnson and original JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH kid Josh Hutcherson for the sequel, JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.

And while Johnson drifted away from the seemingly vacant throne of action king in favor of family fare, perhaps Caine can help steer him there, or at least combine the two. According to Heat Vision, his JOURNEY 2 role won’t be just an INCEPTION-style cameo but a full role that “will see the actor in action mode, engaging in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees.” (Oh God, not the bees!)

The sequel to the surprsingly successful first movie, now absent one Brendan Fraser, will be directed by Brad Peyton (CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE, yeah!). The story is supposedly based loosely on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island”, and has Hutcherson joining his mom’s boyfriend (Johnson) on a journey to a mythical island to find his missing grandfather, who clearly has a tendency to wander off.
