Wolverine 2 getting closer to a director?

JoBloJoBlo

While Marvel will surely have plenty of movie news to spill at Comic Con, one of their other characters is still clawing his way back to the screen.

A sequel to WOLVERINE has been in the works for a while, with a script from Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie (THE USUAL SUSPECTS). Now we’re starting to hear more rumors about possible directors to point Logan toward the bad guys and tell him to start swinging.

According to The Playlist, Fox wants either Tony Scott (TOP GUN, etc.) or Matt Reeves (CLOVERFIELD) to tame the beast. Scott kind of makes sense, since his company is Fox-based, but he’s also now casting on his crime drama POTSDAMER PLATZ. Reeves has worked with lower budgets and FX, if the studio is looking to go the PREDATORS route and not sink a preposterous amount of cash into the sequel, plus he’s catching more buzz for his remake LET ME IN.

Maybe we’ll hear something more solid before the weekend is out. Previous names stirring in the rumor pot were Kathryn Bigelow, Timur Bekmambetov, and Daniel Espinosa.

As hinted in the post-credit scene of ORIGINS, the sequel will take cues from the famed 1982 Chris Claremont/Frank Miller comic miniseries, which helped popularize the adamantium-laced character. The story of love and honor paints Logan as a modern masterless samurai in Japan, where he attempts to win the heart of Mariko Yashida but winds up clashing with her father and a clan of ninjas.
