Spider-Max

This should surprise absolutely no one but Sony and Imax announced this morning that SPIDER-MAN 4 would be released to Imax theaters simultaneously with the traditional theatrical release on May 5, 2011. As I mentioned, this isn’t exactly unexpected as both SPIDER-MAN 2 and 3 were both given the same treatment. The only difference this time around is that Imax will have a lot more theaters to release it in.

The real news here would be if director Sam Raimi were filming some scenes using the Imax camera like Christopher Nolan did with the DARK KNIGHT prologue. That’d get these big ears perked up but so far we have no such announcement. It’s not that it couldn’t happen but they’re not ready to make that news public yet if it’s a possibility. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get some kind of arrangement like what happened with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE where a certain sequence was in Imax 3D. Of course that’s just me wildly speculating but Spidey in 3D? It’d be pretty damn cool.
