Mandy lets down hair

Disney has found its latest princess. RAPUNZEL has been in development for what seems like years but the new iteration (relaunched when Pixar took over Disney) has taken a big step forward with new that Mandy Moore has come aboard to star in the film. The film will follow the legendary Rapunzel as she’s kidnapped from her parents’ castle as an infant and imprisoned. Now a teenager, Rapunzel escapes and goes on the run with a bandit (who will be voiced by “Chuck” star Zachary Levi). I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that they’ll fall in love along the way.

Moore replaces Kristen Chenowith (“Wicked”) who had originally been cast in the role back when the film was subtitled UNBRAIDED. That title has been dropped and the plot has been significantly retooled. Glen Keane and Dean Wellins, who had been directing the past installment, stepped down and were replaced by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno who previously worked on BOLT. You can read a little more backstory on the RAPUNZEL saga and even get a look at what the character will look like by clicking here.
