This is one of the weirder stories of the day. In the same article that claims Charlize Theron is in talks to star in a film based on Ayn Rand’s ATLAS SHRUGGED comes news that Charlize Theron is NOT in talks to star in a film based on Ayn Rand’s ATLAS SHRUGGED. Huh? Exactly.
Today’s Hollywood Reporter says: “Theron has been eager to play the role but has been concerned that a feature would lose many of the nuances of the monster-sized novel. So the Rand adaptation would, under a plan she and producers discussed, be turned into a miniseries for Epix, the pay-cable network Lionsgate is forming with MGM and Viacom/Paramount. ”
But then later in that same article it says Theron’s “longtime manager” told the newspaper that the actress “is not moving forward with the project.” So….breaking and debunking news in the same article, I guess?
With Theron in and out so quickly, the news here is more that Angelina Jolie is no longer involved with the project and that producers are open to a TV miniseries with some form of theatrical release. Frankly if you’re going to make a Rand-ian movie, just let Gore Verbinski do BIOSHOCK already…
