Baywatch gets director

JoBloJoBlo

I had honestly thought that the proposed BAYWATCH movie was, pardon the pun, dead in the water but it turns out that things are moving ahead quite swimmingly. DreamWorks has hired THE HANGOVER writer Jeremy Garelick to write and make his feature directorial debut with a comedic BAYWATCH flick. Variety says the project is a “good bet” to get made and now that HANGOVER is a huge hit, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

Though Garelick’s resume was a little light, he won the job by writing the first 37-pages of his script of spec. He had previously been brought in to punch up the comedic aspects of an action-heavy script written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn. To his credit, Garelick has never seen an episode of the show but is writing the movie as an 80s comedy a la POLICE ACADEMY or STRIPES. And quite frankly, that’s the only way to do a BAYWATCH movie.
