Star Trek Plot Deets

With WATCHMEN about to light up the box office this weekend and much being made of the battle between Michael Bay and McG for box office supremacy this summer, JJ Abram’s STAR TREK is kind of getting lost in the fray. After the success of CLOVERFIELD however, it’s best never to underestimate the abilities of the man with the black thick frames. TrekMovie has an exclusive look at the cover art for the official novel adaptation of the film, as well as a novel summary, which I’m guessing can be applied to the film as well.

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness, and obscurity.

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution of the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

For me, the most thrilling thing about this description is the chilling description of Nero as a “half-mad captain” who “seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.” I’ve never been a huge fan of the Trek franchise but after that, I’m in.
