Rotund British funnyman Ricky Gervais had one of the two or three genuinely funny moments during this year’s otherwise cringe-inducing Emmy Awards when he chided Steve Carell for stealing his Emmy last year. Well, it seems a little bit of funny goes a long way because this one little moment of comical respite has got most of Tinseltown huffing and puffing that Gervais would be the perfect choice to host next year’s Academy Awards. He certainly would add a much needed dry, subversive wit to an otherwise mind-numbing ceremony but it really doesn’t seem like something Gervais would actually want to do. Then again, who knows. Maybe it’s something he’s always dreamed of doing. Thoughts?
