I’m just gonna go ahead and say exactly what I’m thinking on this. How in the hell did a first time Chinese director get Meryl Streep to play a supporting role to an Asian kid with a coconut haircut? This thing must be bananas. I tried to find out the answer to this question by reading about the film and, basically, if you like the look of the trailer then I would recommend not doing what I did. Just see that bad boy without having done any research. Click HERE to check it out. The film stars Ye Liu (THE PROMISE), Meryl Streep and Aidan Quinn (THE ASSIGNMENT) and opens in theaters on April 11. DARK MATTER delves into the world of Liu Xing, a Chinese science student pursuing a Ph.D. in the United States in the early 1990s. Driven by ambition, yet unable to navigate academic politics, Liu Xing is inexorably pushed to the margins of American life, until he loses his way. Something like this actually happened to me, as an English student, except it wasn’t in America, it was in Malaysia. And I wasn’t pursuing a Ph.D, I was pursuing a region 2 DVD of GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. I had the ambition and the drive, but unfortunately in the end I lost my way and was forced to buy a region 1 DVD player. I got over it, but it was a pretty tough time.
