Donkey Punch poster

It took me about twenty seconds to decipher what kind of blood-spattered metal contraption was featured on the poster for the film DONKEY PUNCH, when it suddenly clicked: motor-boat propeller! And the tagline’s double-entendre was suddenly revealed—overboard, boat propeller—you see where they’re going with this. No one does wordplay like tagline writers and professional punners and wordplay wizards and poets.

DONKEY PUNCH’s plot is a variation on a classic one, seen in movies like MEAN CREEK and VERY BAD THINGS: a group of friends accidentally murder someone, and then struggle to deal with the aftermath—do they cover it up or come clean? DONKEY PUNCH’s accident happens on a boat party, with a bunch of Brits vacationing in Spain. The film’s title comes from an urban legend of a sexual act, where a female (or male) is punched in the back of the head during anal in order to facilitate penetration. This act is extraordinarily taboo and considered gruesome by most, so to name your movie after it is well, pretty intense. It debuted at Sundance this year and we’ll have to wait and see where it ends up.
