Word today is that the Weinstein Company are forcing re-shoots and re-edits on the comedy FANBOYS. Judd Apatow’s (who isn’t involved) producer, Shauna Robertson is to be in charge. God knows how this will end up since to be honest, I’ve seen movies with re-shoots go both ways. The film is about a bunch of massive STAR WARS geeks who try to break into Skywalker Ranch to steal a copy of EPISODE 1 because one of them is going to die of cancer before it comes out. Apparently the crux of the problem is that nobody will laugh for 5 – 10 minutes after cancer is mentioned and such a killjoy has no place in a goofy comedy. Frankly, I don’t know what’s sadder, that the kid has cancer, or that the one thing he wants to do before he dies is see EPISODE 1. I’m pretty sure I’d rather die not knowing Jar Jar Binks existed. Anyway, bottom line is that I liked the trailer for FANBOYS when I saw it. Even though it was marginally unrealistic on one account of geek scoring hot tail, and one account of stupidly hot female geek (Kirsten Bell), the film looked like a ball, so hopefully not too much will be changed.
