Are
consumers really that gullible these days? As I was updating our DVD
RELEASE DATES section over the weekend, I noticed that studios
have taken the “re-naming of a Special Edition DVD”
to an entirely idiotic level, with nobody apparently willing to
simply leave a Special Edition DVD as just that, and instead,
going for lame-o “marketing sub-titles” like AIRPLANE’s DON’T
CALL ME SHIRLEY edition or FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF’s BUELLER,
BUELLER edition. Now this might be a moot rant since most people
might not even be paying attention to these lame-ass sub-titles, but
then again, if they weren’t working, why would studios keep using
them? Check out the one for MRS. DOUBTFIRE…oy vey! Here’s a batch
of the latest idiocies:
-
PORKY’S (the ONE
SIZE FITS ALL edition) -
COMING TO
AMERICA (the SOUL GLOW edition) -
DREAMGIRLS (the
SHOWSTOPPER edition) -
FLETCH (the JANE
DOE edition) -
MRS. DOUBTFIRE
(the BEHIND THE SEAMS edition) -
40-YEAR OLD
VIRGIN (the DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE edition) -
TRADING PLACES
(the LOOKING GOOD, FEELING GOOD edition)
