Dreamy-eyed man candy and current Sexiest Man Alive George Clooney is close to inking a deal that would see him paired with Robert DeNiro in director Marc Forster’s crime drama 36. Based on the Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil-starring French film 36 QUAI DES ORFEVRES (36 GOLDSMITH EMBANKMENT) and adapted by Dean Georgaris (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE), Clooney and DeNiro would play two cops who are tasked with solving a series of robberies, being motivated by the fact that a promotion awaits the one who cracks the case. Production is expected to begin later this year in New York. 2007 is shaping up to be quite the busy year for the Cloonster – he’s set to get back in the directorial chair with the 1920s-set romantic comedy LEATHERHEADS and he’s committed to starring in the Joe Carnahan-directed crime thriller WHITE JAZZ. He can next be seen as the thief with the heart of gold, Danny Ocean, in OCEAN’S THIRTEEN and as the titular lawyer with the heart of gold in MICHAEL CLAYTON.
