DC Studios’ Future Is Safe Under James Gunn and Peter Safran Following Studio Shakeup

For all the people who keep shouting about restoring the Snyderverse, you might want to take a seat and accept the reality: James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of Warner Bros.’ DC Studios, aren’t going anywhere following the recent high-stakes studio shakeup.

According to Deadline, the duo recently sat down for a crucial meeting with new Skydance co-CEO David Ellison to discuss their tenure, and by all accounts, it went exceptionally well. This major changing of the guard finds all film units across Paramount and Warner Bros. reporting directly to Paramount Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein. Through all the corporate shuffling, Gunn and Safran remain firmly anchored at the helm of DC Studios. Meanwhile, the future of Warner Bros. motion picture chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy remains a mystery, largely because their own sit-down with Ellison hasn’t happened yet.

The DC Slate Marches On: Clayface, Man of Tomorrow, and Beyond

Despite some disappointing box-office returns for DC’s Supergirl, Ellison remains completely confident in Gunn and Safran’s long-term vision to elevate DC Studios to unprecedented heights. That optimism relies heavily on an aggressive slate of upcoming cinematic projects, including the highly anticipated villain-centric Clayface and the currently in-production Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. On top of that, DC has Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II actively in production, a flagship release that the studio expects will become a monumental blockbuster when it swoops into theaters on February 18, 2028.

Gotham’s Shadow and Lanterns‘ Small-Screen Dominance

DC’s television slate is proving equally formidable. Its gritty, grounded reimagining of the Green Lantern mythos, Lanterns, has turned into a massive cultural hit on HBO Max and Crave throughout its current run. Pitching itself as an atmospheric, True Detective-style superhero thriller, the series is averaging nearly 19 million viewers per episode globally, building immense momentum right as the season finale airs this Sunday evening. With a slate that balances dark TV thrillers, major theatrical blockbusters, and bold character spin-offs, Gunn and Safran’s new DC universe isn’t just surviving the corporate turbulence; it’s actively shaping the future of comic book cinema.
