A bed eats men and impregnates women at Motel Acacia

A new project described as an "elevated horror movie" has really captured my attention this morning. That project is director Bradley Liew's MOTEL ACACIA,  which has a story that brings to mind the 1977 cult favorite bad movie DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS.

Written by Liew and producer Bianca Balbuena, the film will be set in a snowy, fictional part of the U.S. and center on

a young Filipino man who is groomed by his tyrannical Caucasian father to take over a voyeuristic sex motel with a bed that eats men and impregnates women.

Nicholas Saputra, Jan Bijvoet, JC Santos, Angel Aquino, Bront Palarae, Vithaya Pansringarm, Talia Zucker, and Will Jaymes are set to star.

Liew had this to say about MOTEL ACACIA:

This film is a projection of monsters – monsters from the Southeast Asian folklore and the monsters within us – humans. This is a story of a young man’s emancipation both sexually and spiritually. The film also speaks about the power of the female form and how it leads men to their demise. How men seek to dominate women, but always end up worst for it."

XYZ Films has acquired the international rights to the film and will be presenting it to potential foreign distributors at the American Film Market in Santa Monica this week.

MOTEL ACACIA begins filming at the end of this month in Slovenia and the Philippines. It will be released sometime in 2019.

A bed that eats men and impregnates women… I really don't know what to say about that concept, it has rendered me speechless. All I can really say is, there's no way I'm not going to be watching this movie at some point.

Including the GERALD'S GAME trailer here because most of the movie takes place on a bed.
