A Black Sequel?

BLACK CHRISTMAS, one of those holiday classics from long ago, is now in talks of a sequel- at least, that’s what original Sheriff John Saxon (also sheriff in original NOES) had to say.

In fact, Saxon has his own take on what the sequel should be, after he sat down with the folks over at Upcoming Horror Movies:

“Well, they are finally making a sequel to BLACK CHRISTMAS. When I say “they”, apparently Bob Clark is acting in a supervisory capacity as an Executive Producer, but these two guys are making the film, two horror guys, and its gonna be their baby. When the DVD was done in Canada, I was asked to go up there and do commentary. The guy who had the DVD rights started the whole concept of a sequel.

Maybe it will actually be a remake, like what you did with 2001 MANIACS. It definitely won’t be what Gus Van Sant did with PSYCHO. Now, if it was up to me, I would adapt characters that existed. Margot was killed, so was Keir, leaving Olivia and myself. I fantasize a development some thirty years later evolving from the circumstance that they had both been involved in. Something that happened then draws us together now. Olivia’s character was pregnant, so she would have a daughter or son out there. And that would figure in. And since the killer was never found, my ideas are predicated on the killer’s true identity.”

I see. Well, that will sure feed the lingering question that’s been in the back of my mind since 1974 when the first one came out: who is it? By this time: WHO CARES! Why wait 30 years to do a flippin’ seque!? Why not leave the dead f*cking dog dead and do something different and original? Because by this time guys, nobody cares! No word on when the sequel is due out, but really, what’s the rush?
