Did ya’ll catch Marty Scorsese receive a Cecil B. DeMille award at the Globes last night? Not bad, right? I mean, I’ve certainly seen better, but watching De Niro crack some dirty jokes wasn’t as painful as some of the other shite that went down in the evening (I love you Drew). Well, we’re only a month away from Scorsese’s new genre-tinged film SHUTTER ISLAND, and more stoked for a 2010 film I cannot be!
And with time waning prior to release, hopefully we’ll soon land some new goodies from the film, just as we’ve caught wind of a new, cool looking Japanese poster and quad for the damn thing (above and below).
Based on the Dennis Lehane best-seller, SHUTTER ISLAND is set in 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.
As always, Marty bolsters the words of the script with an A-list ensemble, including Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Jackie Earle Haley, Patricia Clarkson, Elias Koteas, John Carroll Lynch, Ted Levine and Ruby Jerins. Oh, and some chap named Leonardo.
Damn, as pumped as I him to clock this flick, I can’t help to be a bit unnerved by the fact it was pushed back from an original award season release to the barren days of February filled romantic comedies. But then again, it is Marty!
