A Flight of the Concords movie is in the works

I’m not sure I’d necessarily put Flight of the Conchords into the “killed too soon” category of TV shows, but I did enjoy it while it lasted, and was sad to see it go.

But now fans might be in luck, as star Bret Mackenzie says a movie is in the works:

“We’re gonna try and do a movie. We just need a story. I’m gonna go back to New Zealand tomorrow, maybe film it next week. And then edit it the week after. I don’t know how familiar you are with movies, but there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that could take one or two weeks. Probably in about a month we’ll have a premiere.”

Most of that might seem like a joke, but a movie is a possibility according to director/creator James Bobin, who recently helmed THE MUPPETS.

“Jemaine, Bret and I are constantly in touch. We’re good friends. It’s just a question of our schedule. As everything, these answers are always about schedules. Jemaine’s in Greece, Bret’s in New Zealand and I’m in Los Angeles. I’d love to do it. It’s just a question of what it would be and when we would do it, but I’m sure because that’s what I want to make happen at some point.”

Does this sounds like a good idea? I could see a whole musical production of FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS being pretty awesome. Just make sure Murray and the fan club show up as well.
