A new drama from Damien Chazelle gets a series order at Apple

Another big-time deal has blossomed for Apple as the company continues to grow their library of original content. As a part of their latest acquisition, Apple has struck a deal with LA LA LAND director Damien Chazelle to create a straight-to-series hour-long drama. As per the deal, Chazelle will write and direct every episode in the series, which is sure to give fans of the film creative something to sing and dance about.

Working beside Chazelle on the forthcoming project will be Oscar-nominated producer Jordan Horowitz (LA LA LAND, COUNTERPART) via his Original Headquarters banner, as well as another LA LA LAND alum, Fred Berger, who will executively produce by way of his Automatik studio.

For the moment, no details concerning the plot of Chazelle's project for Apple have been released. The planned drama will join a bevy of other projects being established for Apple's streaming service, including a rebooted version of Steven Spielberg’s AMZING STORIES, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston’s morning show drama, Octavia Spencer’s ARE YOU SLEEPING, Kristen Wiig’s yet-to-be-titled comedy series, a space race drama from Ron Moore, and a world-building drama entitled SEE from Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence. A docu-series Matt Tyrnauer and Matthew Weaver called HOME is also expected to debut on the streamer.

It sounds as if subscribers will have their pick of content, once Apple's original offerings are ripe and ready to be plucked from the digital ether. So far, I think AMAZING STORIES and ARE YOU SLEEPING sound like they'd be worth a gander, particularly because I feel that Octavia Spencer is one of the most talented actresses working in Hollywood today.

We'll be sure to bring you more details on Chazelle's new drama series as the show comes together.
