Currently making the film festival rounds and racking up awards like Best Screenplay and Best Picture (at the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema) is writer/director Zack Wilcox's thriller HUNTING LANDS. Set in the midst of a Midwestern winter, the film stars Marshall Cook, Joe Raffa, and Keyna Reynolds.

The story Wilcox crafted with Josh Amato has the following synopsis:

Reclusive veteran Frank Olsen yearns to escape from the complexities of the modern world. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, the world comes looking for him. When he discovers a discarded, beaten woman fighting for her life in the snow, Frank must decide whether to continue to turn his back on society or confront the world he loathes.

Wilcox produced the film with Amato, Michael O'Heney, and Cory Pyke. Cinematographer Edwin Pendleton Stevens also served as executive producer.

The trailer can be seen below. While it gives nothing away, it makes the film look quite intriguing to me. I would be very interested in checking out a vigilante thriller that takes place in a snowy, A SIMPLE PLAN sort of setting.

The next screenings of HUNTING LANDS will be happening at the 19th Annual Newport Beach Film Festival at the end of this month. The screenings will take place at The Lot, Fashion Island on Monday, April 30th and Thursday, May 3rd. You can pick up a ticket to the Monday screening at THIS LINK or the Thursday screening at THIS LINK.
