A Single trailer

Firth in A SINGLE MAN

Indie drama A SINGLE MAN shouldn’t be confused with the Coens’ A SERIOUS MAN or Brian Koppelman’s SOLITARY MAN.

That being said, F*CK ME that trailer is awesome! Easily on my top five for trailers this year, along with THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS and the original teaser for 500 DAYS OF SUMMER. Every Hollywood convention for marketing has been avoided; no money shot, no killer quote (no quote AT ALL), no epic score and no spoiling of the entire film’s plots and twists.

The film from first-time director Tom Ford whom I’ll make sure to keep an eye on, stars my own man-crush Colin Firth along with my own uber-crush Julianne Moore and that Matthew Goode guy who held his own pretty well in WATCHMEN.  Story concerns a college professor trying to deal with the loss of his life partner. And that’s all we know, yet it made me absolutely curious. The trailer sports elements of Mr. Ripley with a bit of FALLING DOWN and I don’t know what else that recently made The Hollywood Reporter call it this year’s THE WRESTLER.

Watch it, tell me if I’m flipping over nothing, and let’s all wait for release when some studio picks it up to distribute. ‘Cause it’s an indie, hence the apparent quality.
