A24 unveils a killer dress with In Fabric trailer

This year we’re getting a killer doll and a killer clown, but perhaps neither of them have anything on this one seriously killer piece of fabric. The trailer for the new movie, IN FABRIC, teases an incredibly weird and intoxicating horror movie about a lonely woman (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) hoping to find a dress that will give her a newfound sense of confidence in her journey to find love. As is the case in all these scenarios she gets more than she bargained for, and the trailer shows the dress taking on a life of its own, proving it would totally murder Doctor Strange’s cloak if given the chance.

The new movie from Peter Strickland (THE DUKE OF BURGANDY) was picked up by A24 out of TIFF last year, and it has since received rave reviews praising the style and dark humor. The oddness of the movie goes beyond the dress, with the mysterious shopkeeper having a few weird ticks of her own. The movie looks to balance the strangeness of the concept with some hypnotic imagery and genuinely unsettling sequences, all of which add up to a must-see for genre fans.

Here’s the synopsis:

A lonely woman (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), recently separated from her husband, visits a bewitching London department store in search of a dress that will transform her life. She’s fitted with a perfectly flattering, artery-red gown—which, in time, will come to unleash a malevolent curse and unstoppable evil, threatening everyone who comes into its path.

IN FABRIC also stars Hayley Squires, Leo Bill, and Gwendoline Christie, and while has no domestic release yet, but it will be in U.K. theaters on June 28.
