If there’s one tale that’s always ripe for retelling, it’s DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE. Maybe it’s the duality of man angle, or maybe we just like seeing a mild-mannered dude turn into a raving lunatic, but there’s been enough iterations of the Robert Lewis Stevenson tale to fill a graveyard. And there might be another one on the way.
Fangoria caught up with actor Nicholas De Cegli at the Tribeca Film Festival recently, and De Cegli had some surprising things to saw about what he’s got cooking. Jekyll and Hyde, Abel Ferrara style! A-whaaaaa??
“It’s a takeoff on DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, with Forest Whitaker as Dr. Jekyll and 50 Cent as Mr. Hyde… It’s gonna be played totally straight. In this movie, it’s the rich white people who get terrorized, and I’m going to be playing one of those white guys.”
De Cigli has apparently worked with Ferrara many times in the past, so he’s as good a pipeline as any for Abel news. But really? Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent? Very bizarre indeed. It should be noted that this crazy project is in no way ready to go before cameras, as money has to come in first. But holy moly, what a weird flick this would be, especially with the always controversial Ferrara (BAD LIEUTENANT, BODY SNATCHERS) leading the charge.
