Abyzou: Nick Blood, Emm Wiseman horror film acquired for theatrical release

Sixteen months have gone by since we heard that filming was underway on a horror film called Abyzou, based on a demon legend and starring Nick Blood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Emm Wiseman (Winchester). Now Deadline reports that Decal has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the Millennium Media production and are planning to give the film a theatrical release later this year.

Directed by Oliver Park (A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio) from a script by Hank Hoffman, who crafted the story with Millenium’s Jonathan Yunger, Abyzou has the following synopsis:

The son of a Jewish funeral director returns home, in hopes of reconciling with his orthodox father, with his pregnant wife in tow. But his intentions are put to the test when the family morgue receives the body of a mysterious corpse containing an ancient entity with a sinister plan for his unborn child.

Allan Corduner (Homeland), Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), Daniel Ben Zenou (Skins), and Jodie Jacobs (The West End’s Rock of Ages) are also in the cast. Abyzou was produced by Hoffman, Yunger, Jeffrey Greenstein, Les Weldon, Sam Schulte, and Yariv Lerner of Millennium Media, with the company’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, and Tanner Mobley serving as executive producers.

Decal’s Sara Castillo had this to say about the distribution deal:

Writers Hank Hoffman and Jonathan Yunger and Director Oliver Park have expertly crafted a chilling tale that mixes Jewish mythology with universally terrifying folk horror. You seldom find a genre film that explores new territory while delivering classic twists and turns that every horror fan desires. We can’t wait to unleash it upon audiences with our partners at Millenium.”

Park added that “Abyzou was inspired by nightmares, and I am thrilled to release it.”
