As I’m sure you know, there has been a long and arduous tug-of-war between director Julie Taymor (FRIDA) and the studio, for creative control around this flick. This is the thing that I really hate about the film industry: why aren’t proven visionary directors given final cut? I’m sure the answer is money, which, frankly, sucks. Still, what’re you gonna do? That’s the game. The film follows a dock worker (Jim Sturgess) who travels to England in the 1960s to meet his estranged father. There he falls in love with a young girl, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood). Along the way, they also get caught up in the peace movement, and the whole thing is linked to various Beatles songs that are relevant to the times. This thing looks a little out there, but Evan Rachel Wood is a magnificent young actress.
