Action Round-Up #47

Alba/Rodriguez team for INSIDERS

Building on a relationship that began with SIN CITY and continues with next year’s MACHETE, Robert Rodriguez and Jessica Alba are teaming up again for THE INSIDERS, which is based on a series of graphic novels created in 2002 by Jean-Claude Bartoll and Renaud Garreta. Apparently the two will produce, and Alba will star as Najah Cruz, a Columbian woman with “the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond.” In the series, Cruz is tasked with infiltrating a crime syndicate on behalf of the United States government, where she ultimately works her way into becoming the lead criminal’s body guard.

Flick is set to be directed by JCVD helmer Mabrouk el Mechri. Sounds like it could be cool, but it could also most certainly suck. What I wonder is, how many times has Rodriguez seen Alba’s sweet, perfect bare ass in person? Hundred, maybe two hundred times? Sonofabitch…

Summit needs an ALIBI

Everyone who works at Summit Entertainment is using hundred dollar bills to blow their noses this month, thanks to the tremendous success of goofy ol’ NEW MOON. Realizing it can’t all be shirtless wolfboys and hair gel, the company is actually trying to develop something else that might make them a profit (ASTROBOY, KNOWING, SORORITY ROW, etc. sure didn’t work.) It was announced this week that Summit is developing a feature version of the Top Cow comic book “Alibi,” which was created by Joshua Hale Fialkov.

The comic centers on a well-known socialite whose public presence establishes a perfect cover for the covert activity of his secret twin brother, a government assassin.

The studio has tapped “The Shield” scribe John Hlavin to write the screenplay. Hlavin is currently working on the fourth installment of UNDERWORLD.

Greengrass ditches BOURNE

Despite the fact that earlier this year he was on board with making another one, Paul Greengrass has jumped off the Jason Bourne ship. This week, the BOURNE SUPREMACY/ULTIMATUM helmer explained his decision to leave the franchise that made him an A-list director.

You won’t find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge.

Hey man, we all hear the call at some point, right? You do what you gotta do. Now fly, little bird… Fly… *wipes away lone tear drop*

D13:U Green-Band Trailer!

Last week I showed you the poster for the Luc Besson-produced flying Frenchman flick DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM; Now Apple has the Green-Band trailer, which you can peep right HERE. Looks like a really enjoyable flick, at least on par with the last one. It will hit theaters – and Video OnDemand – on FEBRUARY 5th, 2010.

Two years have passed since elite police officer Damien Tomasso (Cyril Raffaelli) teamed up with reformed vigilante Leito (parkour originator David Belle) to save the notorious District 13, a racially charged ghetto populated by violent drug dealing gangs and vicious killers. Despite government promises to maintain order, the state of the district has deteriorated, and a group of corrupt cops and elected officials are conspiring to cause civil unrest in D13, looking for an excuse to raze the area and cash in on its redevelopment. Now Damian and Leito must join forces again, and use their mastery of martial arts and their unique physical skills to bring peace to the neighborhood by any means necessary… before a proposed nuclear air-strike wipes it off the map. With bone crunching fights and death defying leaps, this adrenaline charged sequel takes the groundbreaking parkour action from DISTRICT B13 to thrilling new heights.
