You know Eric Balfour, right? Man of a million TV credits; currently on Syfy”s “Haven”? How about “that dude from SKYLINE and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE“? Yeah, him. Well, Mr. Balfour has decided to bring his chin-fuzz behind the camera for a change; it was just announced that the actor will helm JESUS HATES ZOMBIES, based on the Stephen Lindsay comic of the same name.
This is a hilarious concept – if it’s, I dunno, ten years ago. With a plethora of unusual, high-profile pictures coming from the studios nowadays (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and COWBOYS AND ALIENS off the top of my head), this just sounds dated already. However, we should always play the “wait and see” game, shouldn’t we?
The screenplay was penned by Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith. Mali Elfman (daughter of composer Danny) is producing.
Here’s Balfour’s statement on the matter: “It’s an honor to be a part of this project. It’s bold, unapologetic, and controversial. When I read the script I was blown away by how well the writers had given life to Stephen’s graphic novel. What most intrigued me about the project was it’s heart and message. There is plenty of comedy and action in the script but what I wasn’t expecting and am most excited about bringing to the screen is it’s message of love and faith. I love when a script can break the mold and offer something unique and I’m going to work my ass off to honor Michael and Jason’s great script, and Stephen’s fantastically unique world. The way I see it Jesus was a bad ass and a revolutionary, who better to save humanity from the zombie apocalypse than JC.”
Takes a zombie to kill a zombie, sometimes… If you want to see some artwork from the comic, head on over to its official site.
