What we didn’t know is the details, and let’s face it… we love details! So it’s with pure excitement that I bring you today’s update. You see, the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting caught up with Green at this year’s Saturn Awards, where his film FROZEN was up for Best Picture but ending up losing to Sam Raimi’s DRAG ME TO HELL. It didn’t take long for BD to prode Green on KILLER PIZZA and the filmmaker was more than happy to comment:
“Killer Pizza is gonna feel like one of those old Amblin movies a little bit. It’s part Goonies, part Monster Squad.” It’s the coolest shit ever, and I’m so excited because I’ve been holding out on a studio job for a long time. Because everything I get called in for I don’t really like or it’s a remake. And then to be working with Chris Columbus on something that is exactly what I wanted to do, it’s amazing…I’m actually more excited about than that than probably anything ever.”
Well if Green is stoked about it you can go ahead and sign me up! Green also commented on what rating they’ll be shooting for… Can you guess what it’ll be?
“We’re aiming for PG-13, because it’s not about gore or violence, it’s about the stuff that guys like you and me grew up with. They just don’t do it anymore. You ask anybody, what’s your favorite movie? So many people say The Goonies or Monster Squad but why don’t they make it anymore. I think Chris is trying to bring it back around again and I’m just lucky as hell that I’m the one that he picked.”
A nice solid family-friendly genre flick from Adam Green? Nice! According to BD Green will also be directing the feature, which was unknown if he’d be doing so until now.
KILLER PIZZA, which is based on the young-adult novel by Greg Taylor, is an action-packed, coming-of-age comedy about a 14-year-old boy who lands a summer job at Killer Pizza — where such pies as the Monstrosity and the Frankensausage are on the menu — but quickly learns it’s a front for a monster-hunting organization.
So there you have it ladies and gents. What’s the good word? Hearing Green talk so excitedly about KILLER PIZZA get you stoked for the project? Hit us with your thoughts below and keep it here for more on the feature as we hear it!
