Well that’s still all fine and dandy, but today we might have a little bit of a casting hint. MTV recently had a chance to speak with comedy director Adam McKay, who’s serving as producer on HANSEL AND GRETEL along with Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell and Chris Henchy, and he actually had a lot to say about the project. Hell it’s one of his favorites!
“It’s got kind of like a steampunk vibe mixed with a little bit of a goth edge and hyper-cartoon violence like “Kick-Ass” and all set in a very specific world. It’s not a comedy. Although, you could say “Kick-Ass” had some really funny stuff in it. It’s a comedy in that sense. It’s like a Sam Raimi-type horror movie, like “Evil Dead II,” only a little nastier, a little more modern.”
EVIL DEAD 2 huh? That’s one hell of a comparison… Now in this schmuck’s opinion, EVIL DEAD 2 is a damn near perfect horror movie. If you want to try and explain the horror genre to somebody, my suggestion is to show them EVIL DEAD 2. So with that being said… I’m finding it a bit unsettling that McKay is tossing that comparison around, seeing how I think it’s damn near impossible to match ED2. But hey, on the upside it’s awesome to hear that’s the direction they’re going in! McKay also talks a bit about the casting, revealing something this guy never would have expected:
“Our director and producer have met with a couple different people just to talk at this point. Nothing’s set in stone. The fun is this is such a big idea and the style’s so strong, you really could cast an unknown in one of those roles, and it’d be fine. But at the same time, with “Twilight” getting so big, there are a lot of young actors who are perfect for these roles. We’re going to look at both sides of it.”
TWILIGHT?! Really?! … Ugh. I suppose as long as it’s not Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner we can make it work. What says you guys? You down for watching some TWI-stars step into the world of HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS?
