Apparently super-comedy director Adam McKay is at the helm for this one, which is being described as ‘a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie.’ Apparently we’re talking some pretty brutal stuff! But news today isn’t about the movie actually being made, oh no, it’s about who might be starring in this thing!
MTV recently had a chance to chat it up with McKay at this year’s Comedy Awards and the director divulged a bit about the project:
“I’ve sat with some people. I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher. We met and had kind of an interesting meeting. Everyone knows Simon Pegg can take Hughie if he wants. I don’t know what his schedule is like, though. I’m writing completely on my own on that, so it’s taking twice as long as it should. I am actually in the home stretch. I have about two weeks left on this draft and we’re going to try and get it made. It’s looking pretty cool. I’m excited about it. You really have to wait until the draft is done to get serious about it, plus it’s like a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie, so we have to see who bites on it. I’m going Disney #1, or Nickelodeon.”
Russell Crowe and Simon Pegg potentially starring in a brutal anti-superhero genre flick? Hell yeah! Mind you none of this is even close to a done deal, hell Pegg hasn’t even expressed any sort of interest in the thing, regardless of the comic’s scribe Darick Robertson modeling the character of Hughie “Wee Hughie” Campbell after him.
