American Horror Story 13 reveals first teaser, key art, and returning fan-favorite characters

FX has unveiled the first teaser, key art, cast details, and premiere schedule for American Horror Story: 13, the thirteenth installment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s long-running horror anthology series. And if the new season’s title wasn’t already enough of a clue, this one is going all-in on the number 13.

AHS: 13 will premiere Thursday, September 24 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu, with the season streaming internationally on Disney+. The new installment will consist of 13 half-hour episodes, with FX taking a fast approach to the release schedule that will have the entire season wrapped up before Halloween. You can watch the first teaser above.

FX is promising that American Horror Story: 13 will bring back a number of characters from previous seasons. Among the returning fan-favorite characters are Constance Langdon, Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Marie Laveau, Rubber Man, Twisty the Clown, and Kai Anderson, with FX teasing that there are “other surprises” still to come. That means AHS: 13 could be shaping up to be the most interconnected installment in the anthology’s history.

The cast is packed with American Horror Story veterans. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Joey Pollari, and Jessica Lange headline the season.

They’re joined by Avantika, Jamie Brewer, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Alex Consani, Frances Conroy, Mat Fraser, Seth Gabel, Orlando Jones, Paul Anthony Kelly, John Carroll Lynch, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Fedor Steer, Mena Suvari, Zach Villa, John Waters, and more.

The 13-episode season will premiere with three episodes on September 24, followed by another three episodes during premiere week. After that, two episodes will arrive each Thursday until the season reaches its thirteenth and final episode on October 29. That gives American Horror Story: 13 an appropriate Halloween-season finish.

The actual premise of the new installment is being kept under wraps for now. Since American Horror Story has previously explored everything from haunted houses and witchcraft to freak shows, hotels, cults, and apocalyptic horror, the possibilities for how these characters could fit into the new story are wide open.

The franchise has accumulated more than 100 Emmy nominations since its 2011 debut and has been streamed for more than 700 million hours worldwide. AHS: 13 is executive produced by Murphy and Falchuk alongside Ned Martel and Charlie Carver. Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Tanase Popa, Crystle Roberson Dorsey, Jennifer Salt, and Tim Minear also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television.

And with Constance, Cordelia, Madison, Marie Laveau, Rubber Man, Twisty, and Kai Anderson all returning, it looks like FX is saving some of its biggest surprises for the show’s unlucky thirteenth installment.
