It took three years, but fans of Star Wars: Ahsoka are finally getting a second season of the series. At D23, the trailer for the much-anticipated Ahsoka Season 2 was unveiled, along with its January 20th, 2027 release date. It’s been a painfully long wait considering that the first season bowed in August of 2023, but it took a while for new Lucasfilm creative steward Dave Filoni to figure out exactly how to continue the character’s story. For a while, it looked like a Mandalorian and Ahsoka crossover movie was going to happen, but in the end, she didn’t turn up in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which hit theaters early this summer.
Here’s the logline for Season 2:
Season 2 continues the story of Ahsoka Tano and her extraordinary journey beyond the known galaxy. As Ahsoka and her Jedi apprentice Sabine Wren travel across a mysterious and perilous world to find their way home, their friends Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper must face the powerful Grand Admiral Thrawn and his sinister allies, who seek to plunge the New Republic into war.
Notably, Ray Stevenson, who played Baylan Skoll, passed away prior to the first season’s release, so he’s been recast, with Rory McCann taking over the part. Rosario Dawson returns in the title role, opposite Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, and Ivanna Sakhno are all back, as is Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, who appears to Ahsoka as a Force ghost—and seems to be heavily featured this season, with him being a big part of the trailer.
Notably, Ahsoka seems to be the only live-action Star Wars series coming for some time, with The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew being axed after one season, while The Mandalorian seems to be on hiatus until they figure out how to go forward (a sequel to the film seems unlikely after it underperformed at the box office).
