Aja on Piranha & Mirrors!

Our T-800 JIMMYO recently got the chance to visit the set of
ALEXANDRE AJA’S next film
MIRRORS
and here’s a taste of some of the
juice he picked up on set. Aja addressing his PIRANHA remake and
Aja on MIRRORS and its J-Horror roots (its a remake of the South Korean film
Into the Mirror). Expect a full fledged set report to hit the site soon!
Till then…

PIRANHA:

“It’s a completely different story. It’s not a remake at all. There is
not even a link between the Joe Dante or the James Cameron movie besides the
fish. And even our fish are quite different. So it’s really like a new take
on [it], doing a new movie about piranhas. The main reason why we are doing
that movie and we are so excited about that is we are going to do that movie
with that new 3-D technology. And that is just the best thing ever!”

MIRRORS:

When asked about concerns of any
preconceived notions of this being another J-Horror remake:

“I have a lot of concerns. Before being a filmmaker, we are also part of the
core audience and so we are reading, going online, we read you guys and we
read the people that go onto the forums. That’s also one of the reasons we
wanted to have you guys here today is also to say that it’s not a remake. I
know what is a remake. THE HILLS HAVE EYES is a remake. We used the same
characters, we used the same plot, we had the same background and all that
background story. It’s a remake, you know, from the beginning to the almost
the end. You know it’s like it’s easy when you just read the title and say,
‘Oh it’s a remake.’ No, it’s not. You know, we re-invented the story.
Created new characters, all of them. We changed all the scenes. It’s based
on a concept by a guy in Korea, but that’s it.
