Akiva Goldsman to do additional work on Divergent sequel

Things are still moving along on the DIVERGENT sequel, INSURGENT even after Neil Burger turned down a return to the director’s chair. There’s still no word on who the studio has in mind to helm the second installment of the franchise, but they did just pick up a writer to do some additional work on the script.

Akiva Goldsman will do a bit of polishing on the second story in Veronica Roth’s trilogy. The sci-fi adventure centers on, “a teen living in a futuristic North America where people are divided into groups based on certain values. At the age of 16, each citizen is allowed to select what group — or faction — they will live in.” Sounds a bit like THE HUNGER GAMES…

JANE GOT A GUN’S Brian Duffield wrote the first draft of the screenplay. Goldsman is known for his work on A BEAUTIFUL MIND, THE DA VINCI CODE, and I AM LEGEND. He’s the guy you call when you need an adaptation done. Well, one of them anyway. Goldsman has certainly had the practice.

I can’t say that I’ve gotten too excited over DIVERGENT. My heart is with Katniss, and THE HUNGER GAMES.

DIVERGENT starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2014. INSURGENT is planning on a shoot this Spring.
