Alex de la Iglesia’s The Fear Collection series begins with Veneciafrenia

A few months ago, we shared the news that popular genre filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia is teaming with Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures International Productions for a series of feature films that will be released under the banner of THE FEAR COLLECTION. All of the films in this collection will be made under de la Iglesia's creative influence, with him producing them through his company Abel Pokeepsie, and he will also be directing some of them – including the first film in the collection, which went into production last month.

The first film in THE FEAR COLLECTION is VENECIAFRENIA, starring Ingrid García-Jonsson, Silvia Alonso, Goize Blanco, Nicolás Lloro, Alberto Bang, Cosimo Fusco, Enrico Lo Verso, Armando di Razza, Nico Romero, and CASINO ROYALE Bond girl Caterina Murino.

De la Iglesia wrote VENECIAFRENIA with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, crafting a story with a synopsis that

begins by claiming that in nature there is an unbreakable bond between beauty and death. “Like mosquitoes drawn to the brightest light, tourists follow the light of the most beautiful city in the world,” it says, referring to Venice. That, however, has a downside. Compounded by the anguish of the last decades, the rage of the Venetians against this foreign invasion has now reached a flashpoint, with some now giving full rein to their instinct for survival. Oblivious to this, a simple group of Spanish tourists travel to Venice to have some fun. They will soon be fighting for their lives.

That does sound interesting. Venice is a great setting for any story, but especially a horror story. The poster for VENECIAFRENIA can be seen below.

The films in THE FEAR COLLECTION will receive theatrical release through Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, and then be available to watch on Amazon Prime in Spain. Sony Pictures International Productions holds all other distribution rights.
