Alfonso Cuarón thriller Disclaimer casts Cate Blanchett & Kevin Kline

A new Alfonso Cuarón thriller is on its way to Apple called Disclaimer, and today we’ve learned that Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok, Borderlands) and Kevin Kline (Fierce Creatures, Bob’s Burgers) will topline the series. Based on the novel of the same name by Renee Knight, Cuarón will write, direct, and executive produces all episodes of the series, making this the first time that he’s written and directed all episodes of an original series.

Per Amazon, here is the complete description for Knight’s novel:

A brilliantly conceived, deeply unsettling psychological thriller— already an international sensation—about a woman haunted by secrets, the consuming desire for revenge, and the terrible price we pay when we try to hide the truth.

Finding a mysterious novel at her bedside plunges documentary filmmaker Catherine Ravenscroft into a living nightmare. Though ostensibly fiction, The Perfect Stranger recreates in vivid, unmistakable detail the terrible day she became hostage to a dark secret, a secret that only one other person knew—and that person is dead.

Now that the past is catching up with her, Catherine’s world is falling apart. Her only hope is to confront what really happened on that awful day . . . even if the shocking truth might destroy her.

Blanchett will play Catherine Ravencroft, while Kline will act as the widower and novelist that writes Catherine into a twisted tale she hoped would remain buried in the past. This will mark the first regular live-action television role of Kline’s career.

Cuarón’s most recent feature was the Netflix-hosted smash Roma, on which he served as writer, director, producer, editor, and cinematographer. The film did gangbusters at the Oscars by winning three prestigious awards: best foreign-language film, best director, and best cinematography.
