Sacha Baron Cohen is ready to share more details about his secret Ali G movie, beginning with its title: Ali G: Who Iz I? In addition to the project’s official title reveal, it’s been confirmed that the film from Amazon MGM Studios will get a theatrical release on October 23, 2026! The surprise feature marks Cohen’s feature film directorial debut, which is now competing with DC Studios’ Clayface and Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun for the top spot at the box office that weekend.
Who is Ali G?
Ali G is one of Cohen’s many characters, with Borat and Brüno Gehard among them. Ali G is Cohen’s British hip-hop character whose extreme interviews provide plenty of awkward laughs, typically at the interviewee’s expense. Ali G famously interviewed Donald Trump (before he became president) and UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. The Ghali interview aired on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998, before Cohen launched The Ali G Show in early 2000. In 2002, Cohen unleashed Ali G Indahouse, which screened overseas ahead of 2006’s Borat movie.
“Dey has finally made a documentary about me. And it ain’t like day crap one about da penguins, dis one haz got at least twice as much animal sex. Ali G: Who Iz I? Cominatcha on 10.23 wotever dat means,” Cohen wrote in a post on the official Ali G Instagram account.
Borat at the box office
Shockingly, Cohen’s first Borat film, titled Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was a massive box-office hit, grossing $262.6 million worldwide on an $18 million budget. Its 2020 sequel, Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, debuted on Amazon Prime during the COVID-19 pandemic, giving entertainment-starved fans of the sneaky filmmaker something to laugh at during grim times. While fans adore Ali G, Borat is Cohen’s signature character, with scores of people still using Borat’s catchphrases to this day. Borat’s famous delivery of “My wife,” is still huge in some circles.
