New Tomb Raider poster shows Alicia Vikander looking ready for battle

The TOMB RAIDER games have since ditched their typical format and overly-sexualized, buxom Lara Croft, now featuring a gritty, survivalist style with a complex, hardened Croft in the lead. The new movie version will capitalize on this new, popular Croft, putting actress Alicia Vikander through the ringers and throwing her into a battle of life or death. She looks ready to take on the challenge on the new the poster for the movie, which features Vikander staring straight into your soul, saying, “If you f**k with me, you will die.”

The new poster is similar to the previous teaser poster, putting a dirty, battle-tested Lara dead center, with not much going on in the background. Vikander certainly looks ready to do battle, as she takes on her first leading role in such a major film. Walton Goggins plays the big baddie in the movie, and if I was on the other end of this stare-down I would cease any bad-doings I had planned. No shame in accepting defeat, Goggins.

Here is the movie's official synopsis:

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.

Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name "tomb raider."

Making Vikander the sole focus of the poster makes sense given the movie is all about Croft, but I feel like the adventure element lends itself to more unique posters. Maybe of some of her in an intense setting, like hanging off a cliff or firing her bow. Something other than just her standing there. Vikander looks like a great Croft, no doubt, so I guess showcasing that is not the worst thing in the world.

TOMB RAIDER hits theaters March 16, 2018.
