Production is underway on Alien: Earth season 2, and a new behind-the-scenes video gives fans a brief glimpse at the making of the next chapter in FX’s Alien series. 20th Century Studios has released an 11-second behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Alien: Earth season 2. While the video is short, it offers another reminder that Noah Hawley’s Alien series is well into production on its second season.
And season 2 is being filmed at a very appropriate location.
The first season of Alien: Earth was filmed in Thailand, but production has moved to Pinewood Studios for season 2. That’s the same studio where Ridley Scott filmed the original Alien. There’s something cool about an Alien prequel series returning to the same filmmaking home as the movie that started the franchise, much like the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake returned to the New Jersey town where the original movie was filmed.
Alien: Earth premiered on FX last year and was renewed for a second season following its acclaimed first season. Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo and Legion, continues to serve as the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer.
Plot details for season 2 remain under wraps, but the new season will continue the story established in the first season.

The returning cast includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver.
Alien: Earth season 2 will also add several new cast members. Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn have joined the series, while Peter Dinklage was announced as another new addition.
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth takes place before the events of Ridley Scott’s original 1979 film Alien. The series explores a future where Earth is controlled by five powerful corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. In season 1, the deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth. Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers subsequently discover mysterious life forms unlike anything humanity has encountered before.
The series expands the Alien mythology with a new era of technology involving cyborgs, synthetics, and hybrids, humanoid beings created by combining artificial bodies with human consciousness.
