Alita 2 bilboards pop up in L.A. as fans campaign for a sequel

Fans of ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL are very passionate and they're doing all they can get a sequel made to the film. The latest move is a series of new billboards that have been erected in Los Angeles that are calling for a follow-up to the sci-fi adventure.

The billboards were picked up on social media with fans speaking directly to Disney that the billboards show that the fan demand for a sequel is high. You can check out some of the billboards captured below:

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL fans are determined to keep their fight going for a sequel. The fanbase has even gone as far as producing an ongoing social media campaign that has also flown a banner stating their desire for a follow-up over this year's Academy Awards ceremony in a bid to get the attention of Disney. In regards to the billboards, they are emblazoned with a character from the movie and contains a different quote from one of the stars which include Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, and Tilly Lockey.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL has gained a quick cult following since its release last year. Financially, the film was considered a hit by worldwide standards, grossing $401.7 million globally. The caveat here is that only $85 million of that came from domestic grosses and with a reported budget of $170 million before marketing costs, many in the industry feel the film didn't make quite enough to warrant a sequel. The future of the property is up in the air but maybe the passionate fanbase response is something Disney will pay attention to.

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL follows a deactivated cyborg that is revived, but cannot remember anything about her past. She is taken in by Ido (Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with a fascinating past. The movie does end on a cliffhanger which makes fans want a sequel even more.
