Amanda Bynes’s nearly nine-year conservatorship could end as early as today

Former Nickelodeon star and actress, Amanda Bynes, is close to getting her freedom back. A judge is likely set to end her nearly nine-year conservatorship during a hearing set for today.

On Monday, a tentative ruling from Judge Roger L. Lund was issued and he said the court determines that the conservatorship is no longer required and that grounds for the establishment of a conservatorship of the person no longer exist.” Her attorney David A. Esquibias echoed the judge’s sentiment and went on to say to Variety, “I’m excited for her. She is excited. We’re all excited and we’re all anxiously looking forward to Amanda living a life as a private and normal citizen.”

The conservatorship for Bynes was set up in 2013 when she was hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold following starting a fire in a person’s driveway. Bynes also tweeted in 2014 that was diagnosed as “bipolar and manic depressive,” although her attorney could not confirm that info due to medical confidentiality and privacy. Bynes’ mother Lynn has been her official conservator since 2014 but the key difference between her case and that of Britney Spears, who was finally freed of her conservatorship last year, is that Bynes’s parents support ending it. The intention of the conservatorship was to always be temporary and they wanted to help her work on transitioning back into the real world in a healthy way. Bynes’ attorney went on to say, Lynn is extremely happy and thrilled and proud of Amanda and ready to terminate this conservatorship based on the hard work Amanda has done.”

Amanda Bynes rose up as a child star on the Nickelodeon series All That and The Amanda Show. As she got older, she starred on The CW series What I Like About You and starred in a slew of films that include What A Girl Wants, She’s the Man, Big Fat Liar, Hairspray, and Easy A, to name a few. The former actress is currently a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. It’s unclear if she wants to get back into the acting business but, now at 35, she is happily engaged and focused on getting to live a normal life.
