Remember back in April when we (or, let’s face it, I) got excited about the prospect of Andrew Niccol (GATTACA, THE TRUMAN SHOW) returning to the world of sci-fi with a project he wrote called I’M MORTAL? Well, the first piece of casting news for the joint has got me higher than what I actually roll in doobs!
According to Variety, the gorgeous and talented Amanda Seyfried (seen right and below) has signed onto the project, which is being produced by New Regency and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Seyfried will top-line the flick, doing so opposite a male lead that is still yet to be cast.
For those who missed our original article, I’M MORTAL will be set in the not-too-distant future where the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality.
The protagonist is a poor young man who comes into a fortune of time, though too late to help his mother from dying. He ends up on the run from a corrupt police force known as “time keepers.”
Can’t really front on that breakdown, ay? And with Niccol and Seyfried together…what the hell is not to like?
