Amazon developing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series

While THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB didn't exactly rejuvenate the big-screen franchise based on Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander novels, the character will live on as Variety has reported that Amazon is developing a The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series centered around Salander. According to Variety, the project will not be a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or films, as it will place Lisbeth Salander in today's world with a new setting, new characters, and new story.

What do we know so far about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series?

At this time, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo TV series doesn't have a lead actress or writer attached, but Andy Harries, best known as the executive producer of The Crown, Strike Back, and Outlander, will be executive producing the new series. Lisbeth Salander has been portrayed by several actresses over the years, with Noomi Rapace playing the character in the Swedish film trilogy consisting of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS' NEST; Rooney Mara taking on the role in David Fincher's English-language adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO; and Claire Foy stepping into the character for THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, an adaptation which was based on the novel by David Lagercrantz and served as a soft-reboot of the franchise. Unfortunately, the film would up being a critical and commercial disappointment, which brought the big-screen side of the franchise to a halt. I'm a big enough fan of the original trilogy (as well as Fincher's remake) that I'll certainly be checking out Amazon's TV series to see what they have planned for Lisbeth Salander this time around.
